The Associate Director role at Kent Construction Consultants builds on the responsibilities of a Senior Quantity Surveyor, adding greater leadership across both project delivery and business operations. You will oversee entire project teams, including senior and intermediate surveyors, ensuring quality service, commercial control, and smooth internal collaboration.
You’ll lead commissions, manage client relationships, drive operational performance, and support the wider business with management duties, mentoring, and decision-making. This role is central to maintaining Kent’s reputation for commercial excellence and collaborative professionalism.
Operational Leadership

Associate Directors are responsible for ensuring delivery teams operate efficiently and consistently meet deadlines. This includes holding weekly resource meetings, reviewing project milestones, mentoring staff, and implementing new procedures that improve internal systems and client service.
You’ll be expected to liaise regularly with the Managing Director, contributing to strategic decision-making, attending management meetings, and playing a visible role in business development. Associate Directors are also encouraged to represent Kent at networking events and support the generation of new enquiries and ongoing client satisfaction.
This is a pivotal leadership position - not just about delivering projects, but enabling others to do the same to the highest standard.

You must bring deep industry knowledge, strong commercial awareness, and proven leadership experience. You should be confident guiding large teams, managing high-value projects, and representing the business at senior level.
Key Responsibilities
Typical duties include:
Leading commercial aspects of commissions and internal governance across projects
Managing fees, resourcing, job costing and team structure for your division
Overseeing delivery teams to ensure consistent quality, deadlines, and client satisfaction
Building strong, hands-on relationships with key clients and consultants
Generating new business and identifying repeat or market opportunities
Ensuring compliance with QA systems and environmental management procedures
Delivering Quantity Surveying and Employer’s Agent services from inception to completion
Supporting procurement strategies and managing post-contract delivery
Maintaining site presence where required for key deliverables
Preparing cost plans, bills of quantities, tender documentation, and estimates
Producing reports to internal and client-defined timescales
Collaborating with other service teams for integrated client solutions
Representing the business at networking and client engagement events
Drafting fee proposals and participating in business development planning
Mentoring junior staff and supporting career progression across the team
Key Requirements
Typical qualifications, skills, and attributes include:
BSc (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying
Chartered MRICS (or equivalent professional body membership)
Experience with both private and public sector clients across major projects
In-depth knowledge of JCT, NEC and a range of procurement routes
Track record of supporting or generating repeat business
Proven people management skills and experience mentoring junior team members
Commercially astute and able to lead internal resource and fee planning
Broad sector exposure and strong technical understanding of construction delivery
Confident communicator with strong client-facing and interpersonal skills
Ambition, integrity, and drive to shape and grow the business
Strong IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, CostX, and BIM/CAD measure
