Rather than demolish and rebuild, the scheme cleverly retains the building’s core steel frame and existing ground and first floor slabs, preserving embodied carbon and laying the foundation for a greener future. Innovative technologies take centre stage, including EV charging points, roof-mounted photovoltaic panels, air source heat pumps, and a rainwater harvesting system. Energy-efficient MVHR units ensure optimal internal climate control, while solar shading, created by an elegantly oversailing roof and south-facing louvres, enhances both comfort and performance. In collaboration with the client and an expert team of consultants, this bold redesign dramatically enhances the building’s sustainability credentials and visual identity. Striking new landscaping, including feature tree and hedge planting, and a living green façade, soften the street view and create a vibrant, welcoming presence.
