Delivering a Landmark Hospitality Project in Margate

Selina has expanded rapidly, operating over 150 properties across 25 countries on six continents. In the UK, Selina has established a presence in cities like Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Margate, and Brighton, often transforming historic buildings into vibrant community hubs. Selina's innovative approach to hospitality continues to influence the industry, particularly among digital nomads and experience-driven travellers.

Selina Margate is a vibrant addition to Margate town's hospitality scene, blending stylish accommodations with a creative, community-focused atmosphere. Situated in a renovated Victorian building on Eastern Esplanade, the hotel offers a range of room types, from sea-view suites to budget-friendly dormitories, catering to diverse traveller needs. The project included coworking space, wellness studios, and hosts various arts, music, and community events, fostering a dynamic environment for guests and locals alike. Selina Margate included a purpose built British and European-style restaurant a Latin American-inspired beer garden, enhancing its culinary appeal.

Multimillion-Pound Revamp Using JCT Prime Cost Contract

The renovation of the former Smiths Court Hotel into Selina Margate was executed under a JCT 2016 Prime Cost Contract. This contract type was particularly suited to the project's nature, where the exact scope of work was not fully defined at the outset. Under this arrangement, the contractor was reimbursed for the actual cost of labour, materials, and other defined expenses, plus a fee to cover overheads and profit. This approach provided flexibility, allowing for early commencement of work while accommodating design developments as the project progressed.

Kent Construction Consultants oversaw the multimillion-pound project, providing full Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying, Contract Administration, and Project Management services. The refurbishment included the creation of additional rooms, two new bars, and a co-working space, all completed within a 12-week program. The use of the JCT Prime Cost Contract facilitated transparency and adaptability, essential for the successful delivery of this vibrant hospitality venue.
